Bandai: Everything About Big Robots, Gundams & Tokusatu
Bandai released their first toy based on an existing character with their Astro Boy toy in 1963. They soon focused their efforts on producing more toys following their joint venture with Tonka and founding Popy in the 1970s. Bandai soon reabsorbed Popy in 1983. They continue to produce their Chogokin line of toys up to this day.
The 1980s proved to be a turning point for Bandai when they released their line of plastic model kits based on the Gundam series. These Gundam plastic models or Gunpla continue to become popular worldwide. Bandai also holds the annual Gunpla Builders World Cup to showcase various custom builds made by people around the world.
Bandai is also the leading manufacturer of merchandise of other popular Japanese shows and properties such as the Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Power Rangers, Super Robot series, and more. They also make figurines, candy toys, and statues of popular manga and anime series like Boku No Hero Academia, Naruto, Dragonball, and the like. Bandai also went back to its video game development roots when they integrated with Namco to form Bandai Namco Entertainment back in 2005. Among their popular games include the Dark Souls, Soulcalibur, and Tekken series.
